Lloyd Henry Shepherd and his son Howard Henry Shepherd founded Shepherd Boat Works in 1928 in St. Catharine's. In 1939 they opened the plant at Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario with few boats ever crossing the border. Shepherd boats were As one of the first pioneers of the "V" drive Shepherd discovered that by implementing the new "V" drive in it's runabout and mounting the engine further back it created more room in the cockpit.

It is powered with the popular and original Chrysler "Crown" Marine Engine. With a 6 cylinders in line flat head, twin Zenith S639B carburetors, original 12 volt electrical system. The exhaust is a straight pipe which develops a most seductive and powerful rumble.

Shepherd boats were well known for their strong construction and ability to handle rough water conditions, significant bow flare, tall hullsides, and a wide beam.
